Standard Route: 10.2 miles 2194 ft climbing 2194 ft descending
Don't let the description scare you, "strenuous" may not be the proper description. Its very manageable but its no cakewalk!
This always seems like one of the hardest rides to me but it is still one of our favorites. It will be difficult if you haven't been riding much but its June or close to it so all of you should be up for the challenge. The climb is long, difficult and somehow fun. About the time you may be feeling like you have had enough we reach the intersection of Bergen peak trail and Too long where a rest break is usually in order. From there its only another mile to the top but it seems like more. We will head to the top for a scenic overlook and then get ready to crank it up on the way down. The downhill seems endless and then you are back where we started, ready for a beer, Gatorade and a nap.
Due to the size of the crew that this ride typically draws, and the different pace preferences within the group, there will be a split start. Those that prefer a more moderate pace should be prepared to leave the lot at 5:45 sharp. Those that like to go faster will usually leave the lot 10-15 minutes later than the first group. If you are not sure where you will fit within the group plan on the early start.
Getting there: From I-70, exit onto Highway 74 (Exit 252) going south past Bergen Park. Continue 2.25 miles to Lewis Ridge Road turning right into the parking lot.
